Description

Finale: Allegro
100x70cm. Oil on canvas.

Finale: Allegro is made to match the fourth movement of Antonín Dvořák's Piano Quintet No. 2 (Op. 81).
It was created for a concert exhibition taking place at the 19th of may, 2011.

Movement 4: Finale: Allegro.
The final movement of the Piano Quintet is quick and light-hearted, while not becoming funny or simple. The music becomes very fluent again, but not just fluent in a simple and soothing sort of way. It tinkles. It might even dance a little. It is a sharp sort of fluency.

The painting consists of various squares differing in colour, size and shape. They can be read from the upper left corner to the lower right corner. They decrease in size 1 cm at a time until they are quite small, after which they increase again until they reach the size of the very first square. And then they decrease again. This resembles the fluent way in which the music evolves.
Squares resemble the dancing or tinkling music. Their sharp shape keeps them from becoming too fluent, and 'tinkles' just as much. Orange recreates the climaxes in the music. The green shades keep the painting pleasant and easy to look at, just like the music is never hard to understand.
