I think this is the most successful of these studies. The mouth has an appealing quality to it, and the whole work looks like an oil in monochrome grays and whites. I love looking at half faces; the right side of the face looks confident, but the left looks terrified. This adds interest, at least for me it does. The only jarring aspect for me is the nose. It seems a bit too short/sunken in, even for a child. It doesn't really detract though. It's a haunting little face.
